TMC Leader Mahua Moitra Summoned By ED on March 28 In FEMA Case
Former TMC Member of Parliament and contesting candidate Mahua Moitra has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with alleged irregularities in a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case. Moitra along with businessman Darshan Hiranandani have been asked to appear before the agency’s Delhi office on March 28. This is the third summon to the 49-year-old leader.
Mahua Moitra is contesting from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency that goes to polling on May 13 (Phase 4). This comes days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided several locations linked to her in connection with the cash-for-query case on Saturday. CBI raids followed after anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal directed the agency to investigate the allegations leveled against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. According to Dubey, a BJP MP, Moitra had asked questions in the Lok Sabha mounting attacks on industrialist Gautam Adani and PM Narendra Modi at the behest of Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The CBI has not confirmed the outcome of the raids as yet.
Moitra was previously summoned on March 11 and February 19, sources claim, the contesting leader may skip the third summon due to the ongoing election campaigns. Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister is expected to start her election campaign post her head injury earlier this month, in the Krishnanagar constituency on March 31.
According to ED sources, after multiple raids across Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kurukshetra and Mumbai over suspected FEMA violations, a company named Capricornian Shipping & Logistics Pvt Ltd has come under the scanner along with their multiple transactions. While the agency hasn’t confirmed any link between those raids and businessman Hiranandani, for now, according to officials, the expelled TMC MP has been summoned for examination.
