“They are planning to arrest Atishi in a fake case” Arvind Kejriwal Alleges BJP's Effort to Disrupt AAP's Campaign ahead of Delhi Polls
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to sabotage the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) preparations for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference today, Kejriwal claimed that central agencies have been directed to arrest present chief minister Atishi and conduct raids on senior party officials’ homes as part of a broader conspiracy to disturb the party's electoral momentum. The allegations came shortly after two Delhi government departments raised concerns over the Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana, two flagship initiatives introduced by the Atishi-led government.
The AAP convener claimed that the BJP has been working for the past decade to derail the progress made by the Delhi government, using the office of the Lieutenant Governor to halt key projects. Despite these setbacks, he argued, the AAP administration continued to deliver for the people of Delhi. “When all other tactics failed, the BJP resorted to sending top AAP leaders and ministers to jail, but our work didn't stop. Now, with the election approaching, the BJP is realising that it is heading for a historic defeat. They have no political narrative left,” Kejriwal said.
He further criticised the BJP's lack of accomplishments in the city, highlighting that despite having control over seven MPs and the Lieutenant Governor's office, the BJP had not delivered on essential infrastructure needs. "In 10 years, they haven’t built a single road, hospital, school, or college in Delhi. Their only task was to maintain law and order, and they failed even at that. People are living in fear, and yet the BJP has nothing to show for its time in power,” Kejriwal remarked. He also pointed out that the BJP's current campaign is based largely on personal attacks against him, without offering a viable agenda or a clear Chief Ministerial candidate.
Atishi Denies Allegations, Slams BJP’s Tactics
Atishi, the Chief Minister and a key AAP leader, also responded to the charges against the Delhi government's welfare schemes. Speaking at the same press conference, Atishi denied the validity of the notices issued by the Delhi health and women and child development departments, which had raised objections to the Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana. "The notices in the newspapers are false. These are lies manufactured by the BJP through pressure on officials. We will take both administrative and legal action against those responsible for spreading this misinformation," Atishi asserted.
The Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises to provide Rs 1,000 per month to women, and the Sanjeevani Yojana, aimed at providing free medical treatment to the elderly, have both been central to AAP's campaign. Atishi emphasized that these programs had already been approved by the Delhi Cabinet and were publicly announced by Chief Minister Kejriwal. "We have made a public commitment that once re-elected, we will increase the financial support under these schemes, with the Mahila Samman Yojana set to provide Rs 2,100 per month," Atishi said.
She also expressed confidence in the judicial system, asserting that despite BJP's efforts to discredit the AAP leadership through false charges, the truth would eventually come to light. "Our leaders have been sent to jail in the past on baseless charges, but they were later granted bail when the truth emerged. The BJP should know that the people of Delhi are watching, and they will not be fooled," Atishi added. As the election season heats up, the battle between the AAP and BJP shows no signs of slowing, with both parties gearing up for a contentious race to secure the mandate of Delhi's voters in elections expected early in 2025.
