Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday called the BJP-led NDA government at the centre ‘unstable’, asserting that PM Narendra Modi government will not last long, adding fuel to the speculations if the INDIA alliance will succeed in wresting alliances crucial in the NDA government that has 293 seats in Lok Sabha. The NDA government is dependent on Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP after BJP was restricted to 240 in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

“This BJP government at the centre is unstable. They will not last long. Like in Bengal TMC has defeated them, in Uttar Pradesh we have left them behind. The central government will fall and our government (INDIA alliance) will come to power, the days of happiness would be here soon”, said Akhilesh Yadav from the stage of Mamata Banerjee’s mega annual ‘Sahid Divas’ rally. He was the chief guest at the event in Kolkata that saw a massive turnout of lakhs of people.

The Samajwadi Party, a member of the INDIA bloc emerged as the top performer, became the second largest in party in the opposition bloc, only after Congress that won 99 seats. This was the first time when the former chief minister shared a public political stage with Mamata Banerjee after the Lok Sabha elections, reflective of bonhomie between the two parties. He even lashed out at the alliances of NDA, without naming Nitish Kumar or Chandrababu Naidu, calling them “Galat Mansubhe (ill-intentioned), ‘Khudgarzi’ (selfish) and ‘Munafakhori’ (opportunistic for profit)”.

He lauded Mamata Banerjee for the electoral results and for the turnout at the Kolkata rally, called the workers the real backbone of the party that has not surrendered before the BJP. This was the first time he attended the signature ‘Sahid Divas’ rally of Trinamool Congress. He openly vowed to work with Mamata Banerjee in the future. “The people of the country have awakened. Mamata Banerjee fought the BJP like a lone fighter and defeated them. We will work together and will never bow our heads before the BJP. Along with the people of the country, we will usher in positive politics”, he added.
