“The ‘Khela’ is on…” Mamata Banerjee reminds PM Modi of his ‘unstable’ govt; vows to campaign for Uddhav Thackeray
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her two-day Mumbai visit met with Shiv Sena UBT supremo Uddhav Thackeray on Friday and assured her support for the impending Maharastra Assembly Elections, slated for later this year. At ‘Matoshree’, the Thackeray residence Mamata Banerjee made her first stop for a political meeting on the sidelines of the grand Ambani wedding. The TMC supremo slammed the Narendra Modi government on a day the Centre has decided to observe June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ marking the ‘Emergency’ Anniversary, calling the Modi government tenure as “worse than emergency”
“Have you seen the new BNS laws? They were promulgated without consulting with anyone. No one knows what FIR to file in which case. If they are talking about emergency then what about their own tenure? They have tried trampling the Constitution. We don’t support Emergency but what we have seen in the past 10 years, that too was emergency”, said Mamata Banerjee during a press briefing seated next to Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray.
She also assured to campaign for them during the Maharastra Assembly elections, reminding the way the Thackeray government was ‘toppled’ by BJP was unconstitutional and undemocratic. When asked if there would happen any further ‘khela’ (game) post the Lok Sabha results, Banerjee affirmed that the “game has begun” calling the central government ‘unstable’. “I don’t want to comment on their allies, neither in favour nor in against. But how can you call the BJP Modi government stable? This government won’t last fr long”, said the Chief Minister, further fuelling speculations if the NDA alliance comprising of Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP would complete its full term along with BJP that was reduced to 240 in the Lok Sabha.
She later also met with NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and held a meeting. She later posted their picture and wrote “Our conversation was rich and enlightening as we delved into pressing issues and shared our vision for a progressive and united India” on her ‘X’ handle. These were the first batch of meetings between these leaders after the Lok Sabha results where the INDIA bloc had secured 234 seats, making for a stronger opposition in the Parliament.
