Terror Encounter in Kulgam’s Guddar Forest: One Killed, Search Continues

On Monday, September 8, an encounter broke out in the Guddar Forest of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, between terrorists and the Indian Army.

According to reports, based on a specific intelligence input from the Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP), a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army, JKP, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Srinagar, in the Guddar Forest of Kulgam.

Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and, upon being challenged, the terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist was eliminated, according to the Indian Army.

A junior commissioned officer also suffered injuries during the encounter, and treatment is underway. The operation is still in progress as the Indian Army continues to search for more terrorists in the area, the Indian Army stated.

The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, "Based on specific intelligence, an encounter has started in the Guddar forest of Kulgam. SOG of JKP, Army, and CRPF are on the job."

This is the second incident in one week where suspicious activity was detected by the Indian Army in the Gurez sector of Jammu & Kashmir.

On August 28, based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and JKP in the Gurez sector. Troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the group, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. The troops responded effectively, neutralising two terrorists.
