"Statement issued is indecent and unparliamentary" : BJP Issues a Show-Cause Notice to MP Dilip Ghosh Over his "Decide Who is Your Father" Jibe Directed Towards Mamata Banerjee
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to its MP Dilip Ghosh following his "decide who is your father" jibe directed at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. BJP stated that they condemn such statements and Ghosh was asked to explain his remark.
"The statement issued by you today is indecent and unparliamentary which is contrary to the traditions of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the party condemns such
statements" reads the show-cause letter issued to Ghosh by the party leadership.
The controversy unfolded when the incumbent MP of Medinipur, Dilip Ghosh, currently contesting from the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, derided the Trinamool Congress' slogan of "Bangla Nijer Meye ke chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)." Ghosh questioned Mamata Banerjee's family background, and said, "When Didi goes to Goa she becomes Goa's daughter, in Tripura she says I am Tripura's daughter, decide who is your father; this is not right."
In response to Dilip Ghosh's remarks, the Trinamool Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission, accusing the BJP MP of blatantly violating the model code of conduct. The ruling party of West Bengal condemned Ghosh's comments, alleging that they not only crossed the boundaries of decency but also perpetuated a culture of misogyny and disrespect towards women in positions of power. The letter submitted by TMC highlighted specific provisions of the model code of conduct, emphasizing the prohibition against statements that attack personal lives or exhibit malicious intent, offending decency and morality.
The Trinamool Congress leadership hit out at Ghosh and expressed their disapproval over his comment. “For the past two days, the leaders of BJP have been giving long speeches against the insult of one of their women candidates. But the kind of statements BJP is issuing against the only woman CM of this country is against the politics and traditions of this country. BJP is frustrated in Bengal. It is losing. The more the BJP insults Mamata Banerjee, the more people will be with her. I would like to tell Dilip Ghosh that we know where this filthy thinking of yours against women comes from. This is RSS' thinking - that which is against women," said Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev.
