Sita Soren had opposed the appointment of Hemant Soren's wife as the new Chief Minister following his arrest.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Sita Soren, JMM General Secretary and sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren resigned from all posts of the party on Tuesday. In a letter written in Hindi, she submitted her resignation to JMM leader Shibu Soren, alleging disrespect to her family from party leadership ever since the death of her husband and JMM Leader Durga Soren in 2009.

“Members of the party and the family (Soren) have isolated and separated us, which has been extremely painful for us,” wrote Sita Soren in the letter. “I had hoped this would change with time but it did not. I feel sad to see that the party is no longer what it used to be and that it is run by those whose views and aims do not align with our morals and ideologies.

She further stated that a “conspiracy” is being hatched against her. “Despite Shibu Soren’s best efforts to keep us united, I have come to know that a deep conspiracy is being hatched against my family and I. I am very sad. I have made up my mind that I will have to leave JMM and this family (Soren family),” penned Sita Soren.

Sita Soren had vehemently opposed the appointment of Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren as the CM of Jharkhand after the arrest of the former CM in January. “I would like to ask why Kalpana Soren? She has no political experience and she is not even an MLA,” Sita Soren had said when reports surfaced ahead of Hemant Soren’s arrest that he may appoint his wife as the next CM.
