Sanjoy Roy, Key Suspect in RG Kar MCH Rape and Murder, Breaks Down in Court, Claims he was Framed
Sanjoy Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder of a PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, expressed his emotional plea of innocence before a judge on Friday. Roy, who had been presented in court by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), agreed to undergo a polygraph test, believing it would clear his name, reported The Times of India. He broke down in court, stating that he hadn't committed the crime and that he was being framed.
The court approved the polygraph test for Roy and placed him under 14 days of judicial custody. In addition to Roy, the court also authorized lie detection tests for Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and five others connected to the case. This group includes four doctors who had dinner with the deceased doctor on the night of the incident.
The brutal rape and murder of the trainee doctor occurred on August 9 in a seminar hall at the medical college. The victim was found with multiple injuries, and the crime ignited widespread protests across India. Resident doctor associations went on strike disrupting various hospital services.
