RG Kar Verdict: Know Why Court Found Sanjay Roy Guilty Of Doctor Rape And Murder
Sealdah Court on Saturday pronounced the first verdict in RG Kar case, calling Sanjoy Roy- the main accused, guilty of rape and murder of the 31 year old second year PGT medical student. Sanjoy Roy has been found guilty under sections 64, 66 and 103 (1) of BNS 2023. The brutal incident happened on August 9 and Sanjay was arrested by Kolkata Police a day later. He was handed over to CBI after the case was handed over to the Central Agency by Calcutta High Court on August 13.
What CBI Found Against Sanjay -
— CCTV footage confirming presence of Sanjay Roy inside RG Kar emergency building in the wee hours of August 9, walking towards the seminar room ( the scene of crime)
— Mobile tower location and CD-R confirmed Sanjoy’s presence at RG Kar MCH during the time of the crime
— The Bluetooth earphone paired with Sanjay’s phone was found from the crime scene and seized by police. That Bluetooth device was missing from his neck during his exit from the building, 28 mins after he was spotted walking towards the seminar hall
— Saliva collected from around the nipples of the victim, matched with Sanjoy Roy
— There were bruises on the body of Sanjoy, consistent with the marks of resistance and struggle by the victim. Traces of skin found inside the nail of the victim, matched with the DNA profiling of Sanjay Roy
— Blood stains found from the pair of jeans and shoes belonging to Sanjay, matched with the the blood sample of the victim.
— Pubic hair coming found from the crime scene, matched with the DNA sample of Sanjoy Roy
— Statements of 120 witnesses recorded including the other Civic volunteer friend of Sanjay who had accompanied him to RG Kar MCH in the wee hours of August 9, minutes before the crime was committed. He was with him on the intervening night of August 8 and 9, accompanied him to two red light areas, consumed alcohol together before dropping at the hospital
— There were inconsistencies in the statements given to the CBI during layered voice analysis (LVA) test, in other words during the lie detector test.
“Considering the spectrum of injuries which are present over the face and neck region and genetalia as well as other associated evidence, the possibility of such injuries having been inflicted by a single person cannot be ruled out… DNA profile generate from bunch of small hair ( recovered from crime scene) was found to belong to a single male individual and matched with the DNA profile of Sanjay Roy” read the final report filed by the Multi Institutional Medical Board constituted by CBI comprising of senior doctors from AIIMS News Delhi and other Central Government hospitals.
