The parents of the 31-year-old PGT doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August, have moved Calcutta High Court on Thursday seeking a fresh probe. The family has cited lack of confidence in CBI, the investigating agency, four months after the probe was given to the central agency at the behest of their insistence. In August, four days after the incident, three petitions had reached Calcutta High Court stating lack of confidence in Kolkata Police and demanded a CBI probe. One of the petitions was filed by the family of the deceased doctor. Thursday's petition follows CBI's failure to submit a supplementary charge sheet against two of the accused- former principal Sandip Ghosh and former Tala police station Officer-in charge Abhijit Mondal, who were shown arrested in the specific rape and murder case, within the mandated 90-day period.

The two accused, Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of Tala police station, were arrested for alleged evidence tampering in connectionwith the rape and murder case. Due to the CBI's failure to file the charge sheet on time, both were granted bail, raising concerns among the victim's family about the adequacy of the ongoing investigation.

The case has already seen a series of legal challenges. Initially, the victim's parents had petitioned the Calcutta High Court against the state police’s investigation, which was subsequently handed over to the CBI. The CBI had been regularly submitting status reports to the Supreme Court.

However, the parents are dissatisfied with the CBI's progress and have now requested a fresh probe. Their current petition was presented before Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, who directed that the matter be listed for hearing on Monday.
