“Render services…only in accordance with law & professional ethics” Sr Adv Vrinda Grover withdraws from RG Kar case representing Victim family
In a new twist Senior Advocate Vrinda Grover and her chamber have withdrawn themselves from the RG Kar case citing certain “intervening factors”. Sr Advocate Grover had been representing the victim’s family at all courts including the Supreme Court and the trial court where the trial has begun on November 4. In a statement issued Grover’s chamber stated: “At this stage, on account of certain intervening factors and circumstances, the chamber of Advocate Vrinda Grover is constrained to withdraw from the case proceedings in this matter and will no longer be representing the victim family. The concerned trial court has also been informed accordingly and the counsels stand discharged from the trial”
Sources from Grover’s chamber confirmed that application has been filed before the court for recusal. While they refused to divulge details calling them as privileged client information, but confirmed that there has been no irreverence from CBI, the investigating agency, Kolkata police, state government of Mamata Banerjee or any other state agency. “As lawyers and officers of the court, Advocate Vrinda Grover and her legal associates, render legal services, only in accordance with law, evidence and professional ethics” the statement from her office read, indicative of some possible difference between them and the victim’s family or their associates.
The trial has been on before the Sealdah Sessions Court on a regular basis since November 4. CBI on Tuesday had submitted before the Supreme Court that the trial was expected to come to an end in the next few days on the basis of their first chargesheet flied on October 7, that identified Sanjay Roy as the main accused who has committed the act of crime of rape and murder of the 31 year old PGT medical student inside RG Kar medical college and hospital on August 9. The CBI claimed before the Apex court that they will find a supplementary chargesheet over alleged destruction of evidences accusing the former principal of the hospital Sandip Ghosh and former Kolkata Police officer Abhijit Mondal - both shown arrested by CBI in the case pertaining to rape and murder.
Vrinda Grover’s recusal at this stage of the case raises question about suspected difference between her chamber and the victim family, amidst growing suspicion of misinformation drives and certain motivated protests, if have had any impression on them. “The remaining prosecution evidence is due to be completed in the next 2-3 days. The prosecution has been assisted professionally by the complainant counsels and the same has been observed by the learned trial court on multiple occasions”, statement from Grover’s office read.
Sources close to the bereaved family claim, on condition of anonymity, that a section of junior doctors who had been at the forefront of the protest, had convinced the family that the act of crime could not be the handiwork of only Sanjay Roy. It is a fact, a section of junior doctors even at the eye of evidences and CBI’s investigation have continued maintaining a position contradictory to the CBI's findings and their reliance on examinations pointing towards only and only Sanjay Roy as the only culprit who had committed the crime.
