Ranchi Police Sub-Inspector Shot Dead by Unidentified Assailants; SIT Formed for Investigation
A police sub-inspector from Ranchi was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kanke area on Friday night. The victim, identified as Anupam Kachhap, was a 2018 batch officer stationed in the Special Branch.
Ranchi's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha confirmed the incident, stating that Kachhap's body was discovered on Boreya Road near the ring road in the Kanke police station area, with a significant bullet wound.
The police reported that Kachhap was on leave at the time of the shooting. According to SP Ranchi Chandan Kumar Sinha, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the murder and track down the assailant. "Last night, Sub-Inspector Anupam Kachhap, who was posted at the Special Branch Headquarters, was shot dead by an unknown assailant," Sinha said.
Sinha provided additional details, noting that Kachhap had been out for dinner with his colleague and batchmate, Pawan Kumar. After the meal, Kumar and others returned toward Kanke, but Kachhap went in a different direction. "Why he went in that direction and how the events unfolded are part of the SIT's investigation," Sinha explained. "It appears he was shot at point-blank range."
The SIT, led by Rural SP Sumit Agarwal, has been assigned to handle the case, with all key officers involved in the investigation. The deceased officer’s body has been sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem examination.
