Rahul Gandhi's Impromptu Pond Dive in Begusarai Sparks Viral Frenzy Amid Bihar Poll Buzz

In a moment that blended political camaraderie with sheer spontaneity, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took an unexpected plunge into a pond during a campaign stop in Begusarai, Bihar, on Sunday afternoon. The unscripted escapade, captured on video by enthusiastic supporters, has since exploded across social media, amassing millions of views.

The incident unfolded as Gandhi, on a whirlwind tour to rally voters ahead of the first phase of Bihar's assembly elections scheduled for November 6, visited a rural hamlet in Begusarai. Flanked by local party workers and farmers, the former Congress president was engaging with a group of villagers discussing irrigation woes when the fun began. One farmer, animatedly gesturing toward a nearby pond used for community fishing.

A video clip of the incident was shared by the Congress on X, stating Gandhi also discussed with the fishermen "challenges and struggles they face in their work". The post also highlighted the INDIA bloc's promises like an insurance scheme for pisciculture and financial aid of Rs 5,000 to every family of fishermen for the "three-month-long lean period" during which fishing remains prohibited.

He was accompanied by former state minister Mukesh Sahni, whose Vikassheel Insan Party or VIP is a junior partner in the INDIA bloc. Saini, also fondly called 'son of Mallah' has been championing the cause of the fisherman's community - to which he belongs for long. He is also the deputy chief minister face of the INDIA bloc. Sahni stripped down his vest and shorts and dived into the waist-deep waters. That excited Gandhi and in no time even he took the plunge. Along with the fishermen, Gandhi was seen pulling the net to evaluating their catch.

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar was also present at the scene.
A large number of fishermen were also present at the spot, some of whom dived to join the leaders in waist-deep waters. Several fishermen, visibly excited - hugged the Raibareli MP and took pictures. Gandhi later left the pond, drenched from head to toe - moved to his care and headed for his next election campaign in Bihar.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic yet joyous. "He laughed it off immediately, splashing water at us like a kid at a village fair," recounted Ramu Devi, a 45-year-old homemaker. "It wasn't planned, but it showed he's one of us - no airs, no pretensions.”, she added.

With 243 seats up for grabs, the first phase will cover 121 constituencies - the fight has heated up between NDA and INDIA but Gandhi had his moment of break to cool down in a pond.
