In a massive joint operation undertaken by the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), around 3300 kg of drugs were seized off the coast of Gujarat’s Porbandar on Tuesday, suspected to be worth more than Rs 2000 crore in the international market. A dhow along with five crew members on board was apprehended by officers this morning which led to the busting of drugs that included 3089 kg charas.

“#IndianNavy in a coordinated ops with Narcotics Control Bureau, apprehended a suspicious dhow carrying almost 3300Kgs contraband (3089 Kgs Charas, 158 Kgs Methamphetamine 25 Kgs Morphine). The largest seizure of narcotics, in quantity in recent times,” wrote the Indian Navy on its X handle.

Initial details reveal the boat was manned by suspected Pakistani crew members, and ‘Produce of Pakistan’ was found written on the cache. The suspicious boat was intercepted by an Indian Navy ship deployed on the mission near the International Maritime Boundary Line off the Gujarat coast in the Arabian Sea following intel from P8I LRMR surveillance aircraft. 3,089 kg of cannabis, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine were reportedly seized from the boat.

Reacting to the operation, Home Minister Amit Shah called it a “historic success” in pursuit of the Prime Minister’s “vision of a drug-free Bharat”.

“Pursuing PM @narendramodi Ji's vision of a drug-free Bharat our agencies today achieved the grand success of making the biggest offshore seizure of drugs in the nation. In a joint operation carried out by the NCB, the Navy, and the Gujarat Police, a gigantic consignment of 3132 kg of drugs was seized. The historic success is a testament to our govt's unwavering commitment to making our nation drug-free. On this occasion, I congratulate the NCB, the Navy, and the Gujarat Police,” wrote the Home Minister on X.

This drug bust comes a week after 1,100 kg of mephedrone worth Rs. 2,500 crores was seized in raids across New Delhi and Pune.
