India’s Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra scripted history after winning silver in javelin throw at Paris olympics 2024 on Friday morning, he became the first Indian athlete to win gold and silver in two back to back olympics and only fifth Indian after Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu and Manu Bhaker to win more than one individual Olympic medals.

Neeraj Chopra came up with a season best throw of 89.45m to win silver but was defeated by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record mark of 92.97m to take home the gold. For Pakistan, it was a day of celebration as Nadeem became their first individual Olympic gold medallist. “It was Nadeem’s day today. I have never lost to him before. Its time to introspect as how to better my performance in the future”, said Neeraj Chopra

The previous Olympic record of 90.57m was held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway, set during the 2008 Beijing Games. While Neeraj Chopra could win silver, it was with his one single throw as four of his back to back throws after the first one were fouls.

"We all feel happy whenever we win a medal for the country. It’s time to improve the game now. We will sit, discuss, and enhance our performance. India performed well at the Paris Olympics, and the competition was strong. Our national anthem may not have been played today, but it will definitely be played somewhere in the future. If not in Paris then somewhere else” Neeraj added, who looked visibly upset with his performance and the silver.
