Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on Tuesday issued new threats ahead of the 75th Republic Day celebrations. As per reports, social media was flooded with photos showing pro-Khalistani graffiti across New Delhi, allegedly vowing to "avenge" the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Nijjar was killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada, in June 2023. Pannun was declared a 'designated individual terrorist' by the Indian government in 2020 and this is not the first time he has issued such threats against India. Last month, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun issued a video threat, targeting an attack on Parliament on December 13, the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attacks. In November, he urged Sikhs to avoid Air India flights after November 19, leading to a case by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In September, Pannun asked Hindu Canadians to leave due to tensions over India-Canada issues. The SFJ, advocating for Khalistan, was banned by the government in 2019 for "anti-national and subversive" activities.

In 2019, the NIA had filed its first case against Pannun. On February 3, 2021, the NIA Special Court issued non-bailable warrants against Pannun, and he was officially declared a 'Proclaimed Offender (PO)' on November 29, 2022.
