Election Commission of India announces dates for Assembly Elections in the 5 poll-bound states

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Assembly Elections in the five poll-bound states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram on Monday.

Elections for the 90 seats in Chhattisgarh will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for November 7, and the phase second on November 17.

Madhya Pradesh with a total of 230 seats will hold elections on November 17.

Mizoram with 90 seats will go for voting on November 7.

Rajasthan with 200 seats will exercise its voting rights on November 23.

Telangana with 119 will go to polls on November 30, in a single phase.

Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner announced that the counting of votes and declaration of results will be on December 3.

The announcement of the poll dates comes with the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct. All five poll-bound states will witness voting of a cumulative of 8.2 crore men, and 7.8 crore women exercising their voting rights, this includes 60.2 lakh first-time voters. The upcoming Assembly Elections are extremely significant as they are the precursors to the all-important 2024 Lok Sabha Election.

The term of the Mizoram assembly ends on December 17, with the Mizo National Front currently in power in the state. The term of Telangana, currently ruled by Bharat Rashtra Samiti ends on January 18. Congress ruled Rajasthan’s assembly term ends on January 14 and Chhattisgarh’s on January 3. The term of Madhya Pradesh ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party ends on January 8.
