The Delhi Police took action on Sunday in response to a doctored video circulating on social media platforms, depicting Union Home Minister Amit Shah purportedly advocating for the abolition of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell is now probing into the doctored video.

The video, which has stirred controversy and accusations of misinformation, prompted the Ministry of Home Affairs to file a complaint, urging action against those responsible for its creation. Addressing concerns raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding the authenticity of the video, the Delhi Police registered an FIR. The BJP condemned the video, asserting that it had been manipulated to distort Mr Shah's original statements made during a political rally.

Amit Malviya, the BJP Spokesperson stated that the video has been edited to misrepresent Shah's remarks concerning reservation quotas for Muslims in Telangana. "Congress is spreading an edited video which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large-scale violence," said Malviya.

The controversy surrounding the video intensified as various social media accounts, including official handles affiliated with the Congress, shared the doctored footage, alleging that it exposed the BJP's agenda to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas. These claims were met with sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress of disseminating false information capable of inciting social discord. The MHA submitted a detailed report along with its complaint, identifying the links and handles responsible for circulating the doctored video of the Home Minister.
