The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday made an arrest in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. The detained individual, identified as Jamaluddin, is a journalist working for a Hindi newspaper. He has been accused of aiding the principal and vice principal of Oasis School, who were previously arrested.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, CBI teams are currently conducting searches at seven different locations spread across Godhra, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and Anand. These actions are part of an investigation linked to an FIR initially handled by the local police in Godhra. Authorities have intensified efforts to uncover the extent of the alleged irregularities.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET UG examinations for 2024 on May 5. However, the release of results on June 4 sparked widespread student protests. Allegations of irregularities emerged, including concerns over inconsistencies in the marking system and the allocation of grace marks to students who reportedly did not have sufficient exam completion time. Additionally, accusations of paper leaks added to the controversy.

In response to the outcry, the initially granted grace marks were rescinded. Candidates who had received these marks were given the opportunity to participate in a retest held on June 23. Out of 1563 eligible candidates, 813 chose to attend. Simultaneously, Bihar police made arrests of suspects allegedly involved in leaking the question paper for substantial financial gain. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a comprehensive investigation encompassing all facets of the case.

In the wake of the NEET UG controversy, the NEET PG examinations were also postponed. The announcement came less than 12 hours before the exams were scheduled to commence on June 23. The Union Health Ministry has assured students that new examination dates for NEET PG will be communicated soon.
