Private Chopper Carrying 4 Crashes in Pune amidst Heavy Rainfall, No Fatalities Reported
A private helicopter flying from Mumbai to Hyderabad crashed in Pune’s Paud village on Saturday owing to strong winds and bad weather. The helicopter operated by Global Vectra Helicorp was carrying a total of four people who survived the crash but suffered injuries.
The chopper, an AW 139, took off from Juhu in Mumbai and was going to Hyderabad when it crashed in the Paud area. As per preliminary details, no casualties have been reported. The captain, Anand, sustained severe injuries in the incident and has been taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
“A private helicopter crashed near Paud village in Pune district. The helicopter belongs to a private aviation company. It was going from Mumbai to Hyderabad, 4 people were travelling in the helicopter, assessment of any injuries is being looked into”, said Pankaj Desmukh, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued orange alerts, warning of heavy rainfall for Pune and Satara districts of Western Maharashtra. According to an IMD official, a low pressure area over East Central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast will bring rain to most parts of Maharashtra in the next 48 hours.
