Political Tensions Escalate as BJP and Congress File Police Complaints Over Parliament Scuffle

In light of the chaos outside Parliament on Thursday, triggered by Amit Shah's comments on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, both the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have filed separate police complaints. The BJP has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of injuring two of their MPs during the protests, while Congress has countered with a complaint alleging physical intimidation and misconduct by BJP MPs, with focus on the alleged mistreatment of party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

BJP's Complaint: Allegations of Assault and Provocation

The BJP filed a police complaint against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of assault and causing grievous injury to two of their MPs—Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput—during the protests outside the Parliament. Both MPs, one of whom is 69 years old, sustained head injuries and were hospitalized following the incident.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur, along with MPs Bansuri Swaraj and Hemang Joshi, filed the complaint, which includes charges under sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as voluntarily causing grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, and use of criminal force. "We have filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for assault and provocation, detailing the incident outside Makar Dwar where NDA MPs were protesting peacefully, and Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushed them, causing two BJP MPs to be hospitalized," said Thakur.

Pratap Sarangi claimed that he was injured after Rahul Gandhi pushed Mukesh Rajput, who fell on him. “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP, who then fell on me. I got injured in the process," Sarangi claimed.

Congress' Complaint: Allegations of Misbehaviour and Conspiracy

A delegation of Congress MPs filed a separate complaint, accusing BJP MPs of physical misbehaviour and obstructing Rahul Gandhi's entry into Parliament. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who was allegedly pushed by BJP MPs, claimed that he suffered injuries to his legs during the altercation.

“The BJP insulted Dr. BR Ambedkar in Parliament. This is all part of a larger conspiracy. The way a Dalit leader was insulted, and then physically pushed, is unacceptable,"said Congress MP Pramod Tiwari. He added that the incident was an attempt to deflect attention from the controversy surrounding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on BR Ambedkar.

Congress MP Jebi Mather accused the BJP of orchestrating the entire incident. "We were conducting a peaceful march from the Babasaheb Ambedkar statue to Makar Dwar, as we have been doing for days. Today, however, the BJP MPs deliberately created a scene. They mistreated Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi, and other women MPs. This was all part of a conspiracy to provoke and escalate tensions," Mather said.

Congress also found support from its ally, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. DMK leader T.Siva dismissed the BJP’s allegations, stating that they only presented one side of the story. "Rahul Gandhi has complained that he was pushed. We respect women, whether they are MPs or anyone else. The Chairman and Speaker have to decide on the matter now," he said.
