PM Modi Rakes Up ‘Mutton Mughal’ Storm; Opposition Calls It “Sick Mentality”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attacked opposition parties under INDIA bloc for being insensitive and disrespectful towards the sentiments of vegetarians during the month of ‘Sawan’, hinting at videos and pictures of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav consuming “fish and mutton”, that went viral on social media last year. PM Modi claimed that as a deliberate insult to the sentiments of the “majority of the country”.
While speaking at a public meeting in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, the Prime Minister compared the INDIA alliance leaders with the Mughals. Even though he didn’t name any leader but his obvious reference was to the viral video from September last year in which Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Lalu Yadav were seen cooking mutton together.
"The people of Congress and INDI alliance do not care about the sentiments of the majority of the people of the country. They enjoy playing with the sentiments of the people. A person who has been sentenced by the court and who is on bail -- they visit the house of such a criminal and enjoy cooking mutton in the month of Sawan and they make a video of it to insult the people of the country," PM Modi said while adding that he has no issues with people consuming non-vegetarian food, otherwise.
“No one is stopping anyone from eating anything but the intentions of these people are something else. When the Mughals attacked here, they were not satisfied until they demolished the temples. So just like the Mughals, they want to harass the people of the country by showing the video in the month of Sawan. Can you imagine what their intentions are,” he added.
Reacting sharply to the comments made by the Prime Minister, Congress has called it a reflection of “panic’ and a “sick mindset”. “Every day, the Prime Minister provides us with a new example of his sick mindset. The Prime Minister’s non-stop politicking is infantile and tiresome,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. “A panicky Prime Minister is trying to find a new diversion every day,” he added.
PM Modi on Friday had also reacted to the Tejashwi Yadav's video eating non-vegetarian, that came out during the Navratri. "Amid Navratri, eating non-veg food, by showing these videos, hurting the sentiments of the people, who are you trying to impress?" PM Modi said.
