Opposition Targets DGCA and the Airline as IndiGo Disruptions Drag On

As IndiGo’s unprecedented operational breakdown entered its fifth day, Opposition MPs intensified criticism of both the airline and the central government, accusing authorities of failing to respond adequately to the nationwide travel chaos.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule questioned the Centre’s “silence” as passengers across multiple airports continued to face cancellations, delays and missed connections. Speaking to reporters, Sule linked the aviation crisis to what she described as the failures of the “double-engine government”. She urged the Union government to intervene immediately, pointing out that thousands of travellers had been stranded over the past 48 hours and that the matter had already been raised in Parliament. “We never expected this from IndiGo. People are losing valuable time and money,” she said, adding that India should not depend so heavily on a single airline.

Sule demanded that the government explain how such a large-scale collapse occurred without warning and called for a detailed statement in Parliament. She also proposed encouraging the creation of “at least five additional carriers” to ensure greater competition and system stability.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticised the authorities, questioning the absence of on-ground oversight from aviation regulators. “Have any officials from DGCA or Ministry of Civil Aviation even tried leaving their office cabins and head to airports to meet the aggrieved passengers…? Or are we asking for much?” she wrote in a pointed social-media post.

As political pressure mounted, IndiGo released a public statement acknowledging the disruption and promising immediate customer relief. “In response to recent events, all refunds for your cancellations will be processed automatically to your original mode of pay
