"Opposition is making issue over the 70-day-old video" says BJP MP
West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar ‘generalized’ a horrific video that has surfaced from Manipur, while taking a dig at CM Mamata Banerjee and the Opposition at large. “The opposition is making issue over the 70-day-old video, and the Prime Minister has responded to it”, he said. The video garnered massive public outrage that led to the Prime Minister of the country issuing a statement, breaking his 78 days of silence on Manipur.
"My heart is filled with pain and anger. The incident from Manipur that has come before us is shameful for any civilized society”, said PM Narendra Modi today, at the start of the 1st day of the monsoon session of the parliament. The prime minister finally broke his silence on Manipur, 78 days after the first incident was reported, his statement centered on a shocking video that surfaced from Manipur and made several rounds on social media on Wednesday.
Hours after the PM’s statement, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee slammed PM Narendra Modi and called BJP “santrash ke saudagar” (traders of violence) and “mahilao ka ijjat lootne ka saudagar” (traders of a woman’s modesty) over the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.
“I feel ashamed having seen the horrific video clip, which has gone viral. Today, my heart is burning, my heart is crying. What do the BJP leaders have to say to this? They are quite prompt at abusing every other leader. They have no right to comment after having witnessed the shameful act”, said CM Banerjee. “When the PM goes abroad, he keeps claiming that democracy is alive and that ours is the biggest democracy in the world. But in reality, the PM is only for one-party rule, and that is atrociously terrible. Today, this government has become a merchant of violence and terror”, she added.
Taking a jibe at Banerjee’s statement, West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar said, “The opposition is making issue over the 70-day-old video, and the Prime Minister has responded to it. The opposition does not want the government to function smoothly; they do not want the Lok Sabha to function properly.”
Drawing an inference to the Parkstreet Rape Case of 2012, Majumdar added, “TMC has no morality, they have no ethics, and so, they have no right to talk on this issue.”
Majumdar further questioned Mamata Banerjee’s stance on the shocking video and said that after 2021, the TMC government oppressed BJP women workers in Bengal, and so, Banerjee’s statement according to him, stands ethically incorrect.
“BJP State President @DrSukantaBJP shamelessly defends the degraded situation of our nation by turning a blind eye to the sheer ATROCITY meted out to our women in Manipur. Unapologetically, he FAILS to realise the severity of the incident and how threatened the women of this nation are under the @BJP4India regime”, tweeted All India Trinamool Congress in retaliation.
