Opposition ‘INDIA’ Plans to Move No Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha, claim sources; PM Modi draws parallel of Opposition to Indian Mujahideen
In a first big move of united opposition under the alliance name Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), sources say, plans to move a no confidence motion against the BJP led PM Modi government during the ongoing Monsoon Session over Manipur crisis has been mooted by the opposition parties. The proposal was made during the INDIA alliance meeting on Tuesday morning. This comes amidst the current logjam where opposition has upped the ante against PM Modi and demanded his statement on the ongoing turmoil inside the Parliament.
“The proposal to submit a no confidence motion has been adopted by the alliance. We will move it very soon. We will ensure Prime Minister Modi breaks his silence on Manipur. No confidence motion is the only way left it seems. The parliament session is on and the PM has to speak on Manipur inside the Parliament”, said one of the opposition leaders who was part of INDIA alliance meeting on Tuesday.
The Union government is planning for a big legislative push amidst the ongoing showdown inside the parliament over Manipur issue, could hereby pass bills amidst uproar and protest in order to settle legislative work, said sources.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the government is willing hold discussion inside the Parliament over Manipur and accused opposition of trying to stall the session. "I urge the opposition leaders to let a discussion happen on Manipur. It is important for the truth to come out before the country on the Manipur issue," Shah had said on Monday but that didn’t break the ice with the opposition, insisting on statement from the Prime Minister .
Meanwhile PM Modi chaired a parliamentary meeting of the BJP on Tuesday morning, where he, according to sources, asserted confidence of return of BJP to power in 2024 and also reportedly criticised opposition using INDIA as a name for the alliance. According to sources PM during the meeting reportedly said that “East India Company and Indian Mujahideen too have India in their names and thus using India as alliance name doesn't mean anything”.
Rahul Gandhi, senior congress leader was quick to respond. He took to social media and said “Call us whatever you want, Mr. Modi. We are INDIA. We will help heal Manipur and wipe the tears of every woman and child. We will rebuild the idea of India in Manipur”.
Trinamool Congress too sharpened their attack on PM Modi for drawing parallels between INDIA as opposition alliance and Indian Mujaheddin. “The comments of the Prime Minister comparing opposition with a terror organisation are shameful. Let the PM be reminded the opposition has more combined vote share than the BJP. The brut majoritarianism that you are practicing where you think you can say or do anything, it has started to backfire. People have realised what a dangerous choice they have made between the soul of India and the BJP. INDIA is fighting back” said TMC Loksabha MP Mahua Moitra
Meanwhile India alliance parties walked out of Rajya Sabha after the microphone of Mallikarjun Kharge was turned off, opposition alleged that was deliberately done to silence him over the Manipur issue.
