Obscene Videos Played at NCLT Courtrooms, Case Registered under IT Act
In a shocking incident, obscene videos were played on the screens of two courtrooms at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Cuffe Parade. The computer systems were reportedly hacked to carry out this act, prompting the Cuffe Parade police station to register a case under the Information Technology Act. The case is currently being investigated jointly by the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Cyber Police.
According to a complaint filed by NCLT Deputy Registrar Charan Pratap Singh, the incidents occurred on December 12 and December 17. On these dates, individuals identified as "Linda Z. Miller" and "Jonathan Adam Amelia" allegedly gained unauthorized access to the court's computer system. On December 17, obscene videos were played on the screens of Courtroom 4 and Courtroom 5. Investigations revealed that Miller accessed the system for four minutes on December 12 at 1:08 PM and again on December 17 for 11 minutes.
Further, on December 17, Amelia accessed the system for 29 minutes around 2:09 PM, according to the police. Investigators have traced the IP addresses linked to the perpetrators and are using them for further leads.
A case has been registered under IPC Sections 221, 294, and 296, along with Sections 66 and 67(A) of the IT Act. Officials suspect that the hacking was carried out with the intention of disrupting judicial proceedings.
Cyber experts have been roped in to analyze the breach, and preliminary findings suggest the involvement of two individuals based on separate IP addresses. Efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits are ongoing with the assistance of advanced forensic tools.
