The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on Friday announced a new date for the NEET-PG 2024 entrance examination, which will now take place on August 11 in two shifts. Initially scheduled for June 23, the exam was postponed by the Centre as a precautionary measure amidst concerns over the integrity of certain competitive exams.

"In continuation of NBEMS notice dated 22.06.2024, the conduct of NEET-PG 2024 has been rescheduled. The NEET-PG shall now be conducted on 11th August 2024 in two shifts. The cut-off date for the purpose of eligibility to appear in the NEET-PG 2024 shall continue to be 15th August 2024,” read the notification issued by NBEMS.

The Ministry of Health had earlier stated, "Taking into consideration the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by National Board of Examination for medical students."

NEET-PG is a critical national-level entrance examination that determines admission to post-MBBS DNB courses, post-MBBS direct 6-year DrNB courses, and NBEMS diploma courses offered by medical colleges across India. The exam is conducted by NBEMS in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), its technical partner.

Alongside NEET-PG, the Centre had also cancelled the UGC-NET examination due to similar concerns about exam integrity. Similarly, the CSIR UGC-NET, focused on PhD admissions in various sciences, will take place from July 25-27 after being postponed as a precautionary measure. Meetings involving officials from the Union Health Ministry, NBEMS, TCS, National Medical Commission (NMC), and Cyber Cell have been ongoing to ensure the integrity and robustness of the examination system.
