Nepali Citizen Arrested at Mumbai Airport for Attempting to Travel with Fake Indian Documents
A 25-year-old Nepali national, identified as Ramesh Leelbahadur Kami, was arrested by Sahar Police on Wednesday at Mumbai Airport for attempting to board a flight to Nepal using forged Indian documents. He was arrested during an immigration check when discrepancies in his paperwork raised suspicions.
According to police officials, Kami had been residing in the Bhandup area of Mumbai for the past 22 years, during which he had been using fake Indian documents, including an Aadhaar card and voter ID. These documents enabled him to blend in seamlessly, and in a startling revelation, it was discovered that Kami had even cast votes in two elections under the false identity.
The authorities grew suspicious when Kami, who was preparing to travel to Nepal for a cricket trial, presented both a Nepali citizenship card and Indian identification documents. Upon further questioning, Kami confessed to possessing forged Indian documents and admitted to using them to live and work in Mumbai undetected.
Kami, who worked as a car washer in the city, was detained following his confession. Sahar Police have launched an investigation to uncover how Kami acquired the fake documents and to assess the full extent of his activities in Mumbai. An investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the creation and distribution of the fraudulent documents.
