"NDA Govt's policies have failed to establish security...": Rahul Gandhi Hits Out at Modi Government Over Rising Terror Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Friday condemned the Narendra Modi government for its handling of security issues in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly following a recent surge in terror attacks.
Taking to social media platform "X", Gandhi expressed his sorrow over a recent attack in Gulmarg that resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two civilian porters. "The news of the cowardly attack on an army vehicle in Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in the martyrdom of our brave soldiers, is extremely saddening. I pay homage to the martyrs and express my deep condolences to all the bereaved families,' said Gandhi.
The LoP Lok Sabha further criticized the government's policies, asserting that they have failed to establish security and peace in the region. “The policies of the NDA government at the center have completely failed to establish security and peace in Jammu & Kashmir. Contrary to their claims, the reality is that the region continues to live under the shadow of terror activities, attacks on our soldiers, and targeted killings of civilians," he added.
The Rae-Bareli MP called on the BJP-led government to take immediate action to restore peace in the Valley and ensure the safety of both military personnel and civilians.
The recent ambush occurred on Thursday in Baramulla district when terrorists attacked a convoy carrying members of a Rashtriya Rifles unit and civilian porters, just 6 km from Gulmarg. This attack marks a troubling trend of violence in the region, which has seen multiple incidents since the swearing-in of its first elected government following the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.
Just hours before the ambush, a laborer from Uttar Pradesh was severely injured in an attack in the Tral area of Pulwama. Previously, on October 24, seven individuals, including six non-local laborers and a local doctor, were killed in a brutal assault at a construction site in Ganderbal district. Earlier incidents also include the shooting of a laborer from Bihar in Shopian and the abduction of a territorial army soldier in Anantnag, whose body was later discovered.
