NCB Mumbai Busts Major Drug Syndicate, Seizes 200 Crore Worth of Cocaine, Hydroponic Weed, and Cannabis Gummies; Four Arrested
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking networks, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Unit has seized 11.540 kg of high-quality cocaine, 4.9 kg of hybrid strain hydroponic weed/ganja, and 200 packets (5.5 kg) of cannabis gummies valued at approximately ₹200 crore. The operation, conducted on January 31 in Navi Mumbai, also led to the arrest of four individuals.
The bust is part of the government’s aggressive push toward a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukt Bharat) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in line with the directives of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The seizure followed an intensive investigation stemming from an earlier recovery of 200 grams of cocaine in January 2025. By leveraging a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, NCB Mumbai traced the source of the contraband, leading to the massive haul and the recovery of ₹1.6 lakh in cash
The operation began with the interception of a narcotics-laden parcel at an international courier agency in Mumbai, destined for Australia. This led investigators to a bulk storage site in Navi Mumbai, where the larger cache was concealed.
Preliminary findings indicate that the syndicate operated through an international network, with members using pseudonyms to communicate and remain anonymous. The contraband was sourced from the United States and smuggled into Mumbai, before being distributed to multiple recipients across India and abroad via courier services, small cargo shipments, and human carriers.
With four arrests made so far, the NCB is now working to identify the backward and forward linkages of the syndicate and trace more individuals connected to the operation. The agency is also investigating the financial trail and possible links to larger transnational drug cartels.
