Mysterious death of Jadavpur University student, probe on
Death of a student under mysterious circumstances at the Boys hostel of Jadavpur University in Kolkata, has sparked off tension and anxiety. Deceased has been identified as Swapnadeep Kundu from Nadia district, a first year Under Graduate student of Bengali department of the prestigious Jadavpur University. The body was found near the main hostel backyard, suspected to have fallen from the terrace of the building. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by the students where he was declared dead.
Police are investigating the matter, also probing if there was any foul play including alleged ragging. Sources indicate there were multiple injury marks on the body of the student, medical confirmation awaited as how old or fresh were those injury marks. “The were minimum clothes on the body of the first year student, when recovered near main hostel block A2”, claimed one of the hostel boarders on condition of anonymity.
The body will undergo post-mortem. The father of the deceased received a call from a local gurdian, urging him to rush to the hospital. Hostel authorities claim the deceased wasn’t a boarder of the hostel and now investigating how he was lodging there, for how many days and who brought him to to the hostel. Family members claim that they had received a last call from Swapnadeep from a different mobile number and was reportedly under distress. Jadavpur University authorities or hostel officials are yet to issue any official statement. Students haven’t confirmed if there has been any case of alleged ragging in the hostel with the newcomers, including Swapnadeep.
