Nearly two and a half months after Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence, the Mumbai Police has filed a staggering 1,600-page chargesheet that lays bare the harrowing events of that night—complete with eyewitness testimonies, forensic evidence, and a chilling confession from the accused.
According to the document, the actor was injured during a deadly altercation that unfolded in the early hours of the morning, leaving his family in shock and the city’s elite questioning their own sense of security.
The Police has recorded statement of 111 people including Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, All maid, Security guards, Hospital Staff, Police officers and others in the case.
The actor in his recorded statement, revealed that he had retired for the night at approximately 10 pm after dining with his sons and watching television. At around 1:30 am, his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, returned from a visit to her friend Rhea Kapoor. But what followed, as the chargesheet details it, was nothing short of a scene straight out of a thriller.
A Silent Entry
The accused, bypassed security by avoiding the main entrance—where CCTV cameras and guards were stationed. Instead, he climbed a wall at the rear of the building and scaled a water pipeline. Armed with a Hexa blade, he cut through the protective netting and crept into the children’s bathroom, knocking over a toy box during entry. However, the noise failed to wake the household.
It was the family’s domestic help, Elima, who first encountered the intruder. “Shhh… No awaaz (No sound),” the man allegedly whispered. But Elima screamed in terror. Another maid, Junu, ran to the master bedroom and cried, "Jeh Baba ke room mein koi aaya hai aur uske haath mein chaku hai!” (Someone is in Jeh Baba’s room, and he has a knife!) Jeh or Jehangir Kapoor happens to be the youngest son of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Deadly Struggle
According to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s statement, the intruder wielded a Hexa blade in one hand and a knife in the other. Saif confronted him in a physical struggle. Amid the chaos, Kareena shouted to the maid, “Jeh baba ko jaldi bahar nikalo” (Get Jahangir out of the building quickly), prompting the staff to rush the children—Taimur, their elder son and Jehangir—to the 12th floor for safety.
Saif was stabbed from behind during the altercation. Despite being injured, he managed to lock the intruder in and escape to the 12th floor. Kareena reportedly found her husband bleeding and asked him to rush to the hospital.
The accused also told the police that the reason he stabbed Saif Ali Khan was because the way Saif held him from the front and made it impossible to escape, and in an attempt to free himself from the actor's grip, the accused stabbed him with a knife and a hexa blade.
A Desperate Escape
With the help of their staffer Hari, the family rushed to the hospital in the most unexpected way—an auto-rickshaw. Taimur, worried for his father, insisted, “Main bhi papa ke saath jaaunga” (I will also go with Dad).
On the way, Kareena placed frantic calls—first to her sister Karisma Kapoor, and then to family friends Poonam and Tejas Damania.
A Chilling Confession
Later, in police custody, the accused confessed he hadn’t known whose house he had entered. It was only after his arrest and seeing news coverage on YouTube that he realised the gravity of his actions.
When asked why he hadn’t recognised Saif Ali Khan, the man coolly responded that the actor was clean-shaven and looked “completely different” from how he appeared on screen. Asked about Saif’s films, he replied he had only seen one—Sikander with Jacqueline Fernandez—and preferred Tamil cinema.
The Evidence Trail
Forensic teams recovered several damning items from the scene: the Hexa blade, a bloodstained knife, a white shirt drenched in blood, and a bedsheet splattered with it. One particularly disturbing detail noted in the chargesheet was a deep cut near Saif’s tattoo of Kareena’s name. Photographs documented multiple injuries on his back and upper body.
Bloodstains were also discovered on a framed photograph of Jehangir. Saif’s bloodied clothes have been seized as evidence.
Motive and Escape Plan
The motive, police say, was financial. The accused confessed that he intended to demand ₹1 crore—a sum he believed would help him secure a passport and escape to Bangladesh.
In what appears to have been a meticulously planned break-in, the man deliberately chose a blind spot in the building’s security setup and executed his scheme using tools he had brought with him.
The case has been filed under sections BNS 311, 312, 331(4), (6), 339(7), and applicable provisions of the Passport Act.
City on Edge
The case has rocked Mumbai’s affluent residential circles and led to renewed scrutiny of security loopholes, even in high-profile buildings.
