The MRA Marg Police cracked the case of a shooting and a Rs 47 lakh gold robbery involving a courier businessman in the CSMT area within just 24 hours. Two suspects, identified as Kiran Dhanawade (47) of Girgaon and Haroon Noor Mohammad Madia (45) of Dongri, have been arrested, while two accomplices, including the shooter, remain at large.

DCP Dr. Pravin Mundhe revealed that Rs 17 lakh worth of gold has been recovered, and efforts are underway to retrieve the remaining amount. Police investigations indicate that the robbery was planned by the four accused during their time in Arthur Road Jail. All four were imprisoned in separate cases and began monitoring the complainant’s shop in Kalbadevi for two months after their release.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Monday on P. D'Mello Road near CSMT. Chirag Soni (30), who operates a courier business, was transporting gold with two colleagues on two bikes. One of them was set to catch a train to Goa for delivery.

Two suspects on a bike trailed the group, relaying updates to their accomplices stationed near the station. Before reaching the station, two assailants intercepted Soni and his team, attempting to snatch the gold-filled bags. A scuffle ensued, during which one of the suspects fired four rounds, injuring a 16-year-old boy carrying a bag. The attackers fled with one of the bags containing gold.

Following the incident, police and crime branch teams launched an investigation, using CCTV footage and informants to apprehend two suspects within 24 hours. Authorities have identified the absconding suspects and are confident of their arrest soon.

Both the arrested and absconding suspects have multiple prior cases registered against them. Further investigations are underway.
