Mumbai: College Student Harassed in Shared Taxi in Grant Road; Accused Arrested
A college student was allegedly harassed by a co-passenger in a moving shared taxi in Mumbai's Grant Road area. The incident, which came to light after a video of the act went viral on social media, led to the arrest of the accused by the Gamdevi Police.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on November 30, when the victim, a college-going student, boarded a shared taxi to reach the Grant Road railway station. During the journey, a male co-passenger reportedly engaged in an indecent act in front of the student.
The incident was brought to light when the victim's friend, who was also in the taxi, recorded the entire episode. The video footage was later shared on social media, sparking public outrage and drawing widespread attention to the incident.
The victim’s friend filed a formal complaint with the Gamdevi Police on December 12, leading to an investigation under Sections 78 and 79 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deal with acts of indecency and public harassment.
Following the viral circulation of the video, the Mumbai Police initiated a swift investigation. Using advanced technical methods, the Gamdevi Police tracked down the accused and arrested him. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against the accused to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent such incidents in the future.
