Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi over the alleged use of abusive language directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress-led INDIA bloc rally in Bihar, calling it a new low in Indian politics. He demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi.
“I want to urge Rahul Gandhi that if he has even a little bit of shame left, he must apologise to Modi ji, to his late mother, and to the people of this country,” he said. “May God give wisdom to everyone.”
Shah described the incident as deeply distressing, stating that Modi’s late mother had lived a humble life, raising her children with integrity despite poverty. “To use abusive words for such a life is something the people of India can never tolerate. There can be no greater fall in political life than this, and I strongly condemn it," said Amit Shah.
The senior BJP leader accused Congress leaders of making offensive remarks during what he described as the party’s “Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra.” “Congress leaders have committed the most condemnable act by using derogatory words against PM Modi's mother. Every Congress leader has spoken such language, and I condemn it,” Shah declared.
Escalating his criticism, Amit Shah claimed the Congress was fostering a culture of hatred in Indian politics. “The more the Congress abuses, the more BJP wins,” he said. He also accused Rahul Gandhi of misleading the public in Bihar through his campaign.
The controversy erupted after a video from Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga went viral. The footage allegedly shows Congress workers shouting slurs against the Prime Minister and his late mother from a rally stage. Posters of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav can be seen in the background. It was reportedly the same platform from which the leaders began their motorcycle rally towards Muzaffarpur.
In response, the BJP filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kotwali Police Station in Patna, demanding an official apology from the Congress MP and accountability for the remarks made during the event.
The Darbhanga Police arrested a man identified as Mohammad Rizvi alias Raja, a resident of Bhapura village in Singhwara. He is accused of making the objectionable remarks captured in the viral video.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also issued a strong condemnation of the incident. “The use of indecent language against PM Narendra Modi ji and his late mother from the Congress and RJD platforms during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga is extremely unbecoming, and I condemn it,” Kumar wrote in a post on X.
The political tension boiled over in Patna, where BJP and Congress workers clashed violently. According to BJP supporters, they were holding a peaceful protest outside the Congress office when stones were allegedly hurled at them. Congress members, however, accused BJP workers of initiating the violence by throwing stones from outside.
