"Modi wants one India, one leader": Arvind Kejriwal calls his Arrest a ploy to Crush AAP
A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from jail on interim bail, he launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of orchestrating his arrest as part of a larger strategy to dismantle the Aam Aadmi Party. The AAP Chief vowed to protect the country and its democracy from what he described as the “dictatorial tactics” of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Aam Aadmi Party is a small party, we are only 10 years old, and are present in only Delhi and Punjab. However, the Prime Minister left on stone unturned and did everything in his power to break our party. Four of our top leaders were simultaneously sent to jail with the intent to crush our party. You look at any other party, if four of their top leaders are sent to jail, their party will cease to exist, but that has not been the case for us, we have stood strong against the face of adversity. PM Modi himself believes that AAP is the one that will give the future to the country," said Arvind Kejriwal addressing his supporters and party workers for the first time after he was released from jail. “In these past 75 years, no other political party has been harassed the way the Prime Minister has harassed ourt party,” he added.
In a pointed rebuttal to the Prime Minister's election speeches centered on combating corruption, Arvind Kejriwal asserted that if Narendra Modi truly aimed to tackle corruption in the nation, he should take lessons from Kejriwal himself. “If Prime Minister Modi wants to combat corruption in the country, he should take lessons from Kejriwal himself,” said the AAP Chief elucidating instances where he himself handed over his party leaders to the CBI for alleged indulgence in corruption.
"Kejriwal was arrested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set an example for the entire country…The Prime Minister has embarked upon a very dangerous mission…he wants to put forth the idea of One Nation, One Leader…If they win the upcoming elections, take it from me in writing that within a few days, Mamata Banerjee will be in jail, Tejashwi Yadav will be in jail, Stalin saab will be in jail, Pinnarayi Vijayan will be in jail, Uddhav Thakrey will be in jail, all opposition leaders will be in jail…He will not even spare his own leaders,” said Kejriwal suggesting that if PM Modi comes back to power, he will not only quell the Opposition, but also remove his own leaders from power to propagate the idea of “One Nation, One Election.”Arvind Kejriwal then went onto request all Indians to save the country from the alleged “dictatorial” BJP regime, and thanked the Supreme Court for releasing him ahead of the elections in Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam case. After spending 50 days in jail, the Supreme Court granted Arvind Kejriwal interim bail until June 1 so he could campaign during the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwalwill need to surrender and return to jail on June 2. Despite Kejriwal's lawyer's request, the bench, led by Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, refused to extend the interim bail until June 5, which was a day after the vote count on June 4.
Under the interim bail conditions, Kejriwal is restricted from going to his office, signing official documents, or visiting the Delhi secretariat. Any urgent documents requiring his signature must be approved by the Lieutenant Governor. The Supreme Court justified granting interim bail due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, explaining that it was not feasible to conclude arguments or deliver a verdict on Kejriwal's petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at this stage.
