Missing Wife of Indore Man Found Dead in Meghalaya Arrested for Alleged Murder

n a chilling twist to the mysterious death of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, his wife, Sonam, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating his murder. Police officials confirmed on Monday that Sonam had hired contract killers to carry out the crime.
The couple had been reported missing on 23 May while visiting Cherrapunjee in the East Khasi Hills. A day later, their rented scooter was discovered abandoned near Sohrarim, sparking a state-wide search.
Ten days later, Raja's body was found in a deep gorge below the Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang. Investigators recovered a machete near the scene, believed to have been used in the attack. Meanwhile, Sonam had vanished without a trace.
The breakthrough came on Saturday night when Sonam was found unconscious at a roadside dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She was taken to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment. Once revived, she surrendered to the police and was placed under arrest.
According to Meghalaya Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, three other suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder. Two were arrested in Indore, while the third was caught in Uttar Pradesh.
“All three have confessed to being hired by Sonam to kill her husband,” said Nongrang. “We are questioning the accused and continuing the investigation. One more individual involved is still at large," he added.
A tourist guide in Meghalaya emerged as a key witness in the case. He told the police that he saw Raja and Sonam with three other men on the day they went missing.
“I recognised the couple because I had offered my services on 22 May to help them descend to Nongriat. They politely declined and said they had hired another guide,” the witness said. He later spotted the couple and the three men climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on 23 May.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma lauded the police for swiftly cracking the case. Taking to X, he said, “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #MeghalayaPolice in the Raja murder case... Three assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch one more assailant… Well done!”
