Major Raid in Karnataka: Police Seize Rs 7.6 Crore in Cash, Gold, and Silver
The Karnataka Police seized a total of Rs 5.60 crore in cash, along with 3 kg of gold, 103 kg of silver jewellery, and 68 silver bars in a raid carried out in the Bellary town. The raid carried out ahead of the 2024 alok Sabha elections resulted in the recovery of approximately Rs 7.60 crore in total.
The raid was conducted at the residence of the owner of Hema Jewellers in Kambali Bazaar, Bellary. The police confiscated cash, gold, and silver items during the operation. The seized assets included a considerable sum of cash, 3 kg of gold, 103 kg of jewelry ornaments, and 68 pieces of silver bars.
Naresh Soni, the proprietor of Hema Jewellers, was arrested and interrogated by the authorities. Police suspect that the seized assets may be linked to a Hawala transaction, prompting further investigation into the matter. A case has been registered by the police to probe into the alleged transactions.
The police have initiated legal action under section 98 of the Karnataka Police Act due to suspicion of a potential hawala connection. They intend to forward the findings of their probe to the Income Tax department for additional investigation.
