Maharashtra: Ujjwal Nikam Takes Charge of Legal Battle in Kalyan Rape and Murder Case

Senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam, renowned for his expertise in handling high-profile cases, has been entrusted with representing the shocking case of a 12-year-old girl from Kalyan East, who was raped and murdered. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has vowed swift and decisive action, emphasizing that Nikam’s legal expertise will play a key role in ensuring that justice is served. To expedite the process, the Chief Minister has directed the Thane Police Commissioner to file the chargesheet within 30 days. 

“The victim was like my daughter. Ensuring justice for her is my responsibility. The culprits will face strict punishment within four months,” Fadnavis assured.

The victim’s parents, accompanied by Mumbai BJP Vice President Amarjeet Mishra and Kalyan East MLA Sulbha Gaikwad, met the Chief Minister on Saturday to share their grief and seek justice. Fadnavis promised full support and reiterated his government’s commitment to delivering swift and severe action against the accused.

To safeguard the victim’s family, the Chief Minister instructed the Thane Police Commissioner to ensure their security, stating, “The family should feel completely safe. Any attempt to intimidate or harass them will result in strict action.” He also emphasized that the culprits would remain behind bars and face the harshest punishment under the law.

Speaking after the meeting, Amarjeet Mishra said, “This case symbolizes the fight for justice and safety for all daughters. The Chief Minister’s decision to appoint an advocate of Ujjwal Nikam’s stature and expedite the legal process reflects his commitment to justice.”

As immediate relief, Mishra presented the family with a cheque of ₹1 lakh. Prominent figures, including Vijay Upadhyay, I.P. Mishra, and C.P. Mishra, were also present during the meeting to show solidarity with the family.

A couple was arrested for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Kalyan who went missing on Monday. The girl’s body was found the next day following which the police had registered a case of rape and murder. The 35-year-old man allegedly raped and murdered the girl while his third wife Sakshi (25) helped him dispose of the body, police said.
