Maharashtra Govt to build 30-Storey ‘Bihar Bhawan’ in Mumbai, Cabinet Clears ₹314 Crore Project

After Delhi, Bihar is set to establish a dedicated Bihar Bhawan in Mumbai, with the state government giving a major push to the long-pending plan. A detailed blueprint for the project has already been prepared.

According to Building Construction Department Secretary Kumar Ravi, the Bihar Bhawan will come up at Elephant Estate in the Mumbai Port Trust area. The proposed structure will be a modern, nearly 30-storey building with a basement and advanced facilities to support administrative and public needs.

The state cabinet has granted administrative approval of ₹314.20 crore for the project, a move expected to fast-track construction. Once completed, the Bihar Bhawan will serve as a hub for government work, official meetings, and accommodation for visitors from the state.

A key feature of the project is the special provision for patients from Bihar who travel to Mumbai for treatment of cancer and other serious illnesses. Dedicated accommodation will be arranged for patients as well as their family members, easing their stay during prolonged medical care.

As per the plan, the Bihar Bhawan will be constructed on around 0.68 acre of land and will rise to about 69 metres from ground level. The building will house 178 rooms and a dormitory with a capacity of 240 beds for patients and attendants.

Additional facilities include sensor-based smart parking with triple and double-decker systems for up to 233 vehicles, a 72-seat conference hall, cafeteria, medical room, and other essential amenities. Officials said the Mumbai Bihar Bhawan, on the lines of the existing one in Delhi, marks an important step towards improving public welfare and strengthening the state’s institutional presence outside Bihar.
