Maha Vikas Aghadi Collapses: Shiv Sena (UBT) Announces Solo Fight Amid Raut's Scathing Attack on Congress
The poor performance of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the recent assembly elections created fissures within the alliance. However, the cracks widened into a collapse after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut announced the party's decision to contest the upcoming municipal corporation elections independently.
MP Sanjay Raut, representing the Uddhav Thackeray faction, stated, "Our party president, Uddhav Thackeray, has directed us to fight elections independently to provide more opportunities for party workers. This is something that cannot happen within the alliance."
Raut further declared, "We will contest municipal corporation elections from Mumbai to Nagpur independently. We’ll face the consequences, whatever they may be. Alliances restrict opportunities for workers, and without opportunities, the party cannot grow. Every party should contest elections solo to strengthen itself."
Responding to Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar's remarks about delays in seat-sharing, Raut said, “When Shiv Sena wasn’t present in Haryana, Congress contested alone. Why did Congress lose in Jammu and Kashmir? In Maharashtra, some Congress leaders were eyeing the Chief Minister’s post. Congress is a national party, but was Shiv Sena present in West Bengal? Why is Congress losing across states? In any alliance, coordination and adjustment are crucial. Those who cannot accept this have no right to remain in the alliance. Congress should introspect and address its own issues.”
He also commented on Congress’s role in the INDIA alliance, saying, "Congress should prove its presence in the Delhi elections. Our best wishes are with them. As the largest party, Congress has the responsibility to keep the INDIA bloc united. Since the Lok Sabha elections, Congress hasn’t even convened a single meeting. The party needs to take its responsibilities seriously if it wants to challenge the ruling power."
