Madhya Pradesh Panchayat Member Spotted in Viral Sex Video on Expressway; BJP Distances Itself from the Accused

A video clip purportedly showing a couple engaging in a sexual act inside a car on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has gone viral, sparking outrage and leading to police action and political distancing. The man in the footage has been identified as Manoharlal Dhakad, a District Panchayat member from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. Following the circulation of the video, he was removed from his position as the national secretary of the Dhakad Mahasabha, a community organisation based in Ujjain.
The incident has drawn political attention, particularly after speculation regarding Dhakad’s affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While Dhakad reportedly does not hold any rank within the party, his wife, Sohan Bai, is a BJP-backed District Panchayat member representing Ward No. 8 in Mandsaur. However, several photos of Dhakad’s spotting a saffron scarf with BJP’s symbol on it, along with prominent leaders of the saffron party have come to the fore.
Rajesh Dixit, the BJP District President of Mandsaur said, “Manohar Dhakad may have taken primary membership online, but he is not a BJP office-bearer. His wife is. Such people will not be allowed in the party.”
Similarly, State BJP spokesperson Yashpal Singh Sisodia reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal discipline, stating, “If misconduct is proven, the party will take appropriate disciplinary action.”
BJP State President V.D. Sharma also denied that Dhakad held any official position within the party. “He is not a primary member of the BJP. We do not endorse such behavior,” said Sharma.
According to police officials, the incident reportedly occurred on 13 May, and the video was allegedly captured via CCTV installed along the newly constructed 8-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The white vehicle seen in the video has been verified through transport department records to be registered in Dhakad’s name.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Manoj Kumar Singh, confirmed the details saying, “In the investigation, the location turned out to be a public place on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Bhanpura. A case has been registered against Manohar Dhakad and another person under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to public obscenity and obstruction.”
The charges include Section 296 (obscene acts in public places), Section 285 (obstructing a public way), and Section 3(5) under the new BNS provisions. Police are currently searching for both individuals involved in the video.
The explicit nature of the viral clip and its circulation on social media has prompted significant backlash, with many calling for stricter enforcement of laws against public indecency.
