Kohli makes history: First player to score 2000 runs in 7 different calendar years
Virat Kohli achieved a new milestone in his illustrious career by becoming the first player to surpass 2000 international runs in seven different calendar years on Thursday. Kohli accomplished this feat during India's second innings in the Centurion Test against South Africa.
In India's loss by an innings and 32 runs, Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 82 balls, bringing his total runs for the year 2023 to 2006. This marks his seventh consecutive year of surpassing 2000 international runs, having previously achieved this milestone in 2012 (2186 runs), 2014 (2286 runs), 2016 (2595 runs), 2017 (2818 runs), 2018 (2735 runs), and 2019 (2455 runs). Notably, no player in the history of international cricket, dating back to 1877 according to official records, has accomplished this feat.
Kohli surpassed the record held by Sri Lankan cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara, who had achieved the feat of scoring 2000 or more international runs in six separate calendar years.
