Key Witness Identifies Shooters in Baba Siddique Murder Case: Police Provide Protection Amid Threats
A significant development has emerged in the Baba Siddique murder case. According to the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Crime Branch in the special MCOCA court, a key eyewitness, Iqbal Wahid Shaikh, identified all three shooters involved in the killing. Shaikh, who was present at the scene of the murder, confirmed the identities of Shiv Kumar Gautam, Gurmel Singh, and Dharmaraj Kashyap during an identification parade organized by the police following their arrest.
The eyewitness’s statement and details of the identification parade have been included in the chargesheet as evidence. The identification conclusively confirmed that these three accused carried out the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
*Witness Receives Death Threats*
After identifying the accused, Iqbal Shaikh reported receiving death threats and extortion demands of Rs 5 crore. In response, the Mumbai Police provided him wit security as a precautionary measure.
A complaint regarding the threats was filed at Khar Police Station, and an investigation is underway. Authorities suspect the Bishnoi gang may be behind the threats, although further inquiries are ongoing.
*Zeeshan Siddique Questions Police Investigation*
Meanwhile, Baba Siddique’s son, Zeeshan Siddique, raised concerns over the investigation during a meeting with senior Mumbai Police officials on Thursday. He alleged flaws in the inquiry and accused the police of not interrogating individuals he had named as suspects.
“I identified several suspects, including builders, but the police haven’t questioned them yet. The main suspects—Anmol Bishnoi, Shubham Lonkar, and Zeeshan Akhtar are still absconding. How can the police rule out the involvement of the builder lobby without proper interrogation?” Zeeshan said.
He further claimed he would share more names with the police and pursue answers from the court and state leaders. “I will meet Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and CM Devendra Fadnavis to ensure justice is served,” he added.
Police Defend Investigation
Responding to Zeeshan’s allegations, police sources emphasized that 26 individuals have already been arrested in the case, dismissing claims of negligence. “If our investigation had flaws, we wouldn’t have made so many arrests. The investigation is fair and evidence-based,” a senior officer said.
The police assured that all allegations and evidence are being thoroughly examined and reiterated their commitment to resolving the case.
