J&K Police Make First Arrest in Reasi Terror Attack Case
The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday made their first arrest in connection with the Reasi terror attack. The Reasi Terror attack on June 9 claimed at least 9 lives and left as many as 33 people injured. The incident occurred when terrorists targeted a bus transporting pilgrims from Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra in the Teryath village of Pouni area.
"A major breakthrough has been achieved in the case pertaining to the terrorist attack on the pilgrim bus which was coming from Shiv Khori on 9th June. In this, one terror associate, namely Hakam, age 45 years has been arrested by J&K Police at Reasi….The arrested person is a prime militant associate who helped the terrorists in the execution of the attack. Further interrogation and investigation of the case is going on,” said Mohita Sharma, SSP Reasi.
The one person arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police hails from Rajouri and is suspected of aiding the terrorists by providing logistical support for the attack. The Ministry of Home Affairs transferred this case to the National Investigation Agency on June 17. This move came following a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who emphasized the need to replicate anti-terrorism successes achieved in the Kashmir valley across the Jammu region. The attack has intensified concerns over security in the region.
