Israel-Palestine Update: “No food, water, electricity or fuel” Israel declares ‘complete siege’ on Gaza
“No food, no water, no fuel, and no electricity”, Israel has announced a “complete seize” of the already besieged Gaza Strip, as airstrikes continued on Palestine territory. "We are putting a complete siege on Gaza... No electricity, no food, no water, no gas -- it's all closed," said Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant in a video message referring to the enclave known as one of the most densely populated areas in the world with about 2.3 million people living there. Israel controls Gaza’s airspace and territorial waters. There are three borders, out of which two border crossing points are controlled by Israel and the third by Egypt.
Israel's chief military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, on Monday, said that they have retaken control of all communities around Gaza, more than 48 hours after Hamas launched a surprise assault in which more than 700 people were killed. Israel has formally declared war on Hamas on Sunday. As of Monday afternoon, according to the Israel Health Ministry, 2,506 people had been wounded in the attacks by Hamas that began on Saturday morning.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 500 Palestinians have died. Cutting off power to the territory could impair the medical facilities.
Social media is abuzz with videos of horror. One video has captured an attack on a music festival in Israel where 260 people have reportedly died. There are other video clips showing Israeli civilians being captured. Hamas claims it has more than 100 hostages, including Israeli army officers. "We are fighting animals and are acting accordingly," Yoav Gallant said while justifying the “complete blockade”.
