“I have cooperated with them in the past and will continue to do so in the future”: TMC Abhishek Banerjee appears before the Enforcement Directorate
Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday in adherence to the summon issued against the MP in connection to the alleged recruitment scam case.
The Diamond Harbour MP arrived at the ED Office at around 11:10 am in the morning and stepped out on foot approximately an hour later. “Today, I submitted the documents the ED had asked me to submit. They summoned me, and like always I complied. I have cooperated with them in the past and will continue to do so in the future,” said Banerjee.
Abhishek Banerjee presented documents amounting to approximately 5,000 pages before the probe agency. The Enforcement Directorate is probing into the alleged recruitment scam case and these documents were asked for in connection to the same.
“Had I wished, I would not have appeared before the probe agency in person in adherence to the division bench order. But, I physically appeared because I have nothing to hide; the ED has not been able to prove anything against Abhishek Banerjee. Like always, I will continue to cooperate with the central agency at all times,” said the TMC MP.
This is the 5th time since May that Banerjee has been summoned by the ED and the CBI. Previously, the TMC MP was summoned on October 3, which he skipped as he was spearheading the TMC leadership protesting in Delhi against the BJP-led Central government which has allegedly blocked the MNREGA funds of Bengal. Banerjee appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on October 9 instead.
Earlier this year Abhishek Banerjee was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on September 13. Incidentally, the summon happened to coincide with the first meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Opposition Alliance INDIA. Banerjee had then alleged that central agencies of the country are working at the behest of the BJP-led Union government, and this is an attempt to intimidate Opposition leaders.
