A horrific incident has shaken the Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad, where a 14 year old Class IX student was allegedly gang-raped by four individuals in her high-rise apartment on Sunday, July 13, 2025. According to police reports, two of the accused, both above 18 years old, have been arrested, while the main accused, believed to be a minor, and another adult suspect remain at large. The case has sparked outrage and raised concerns about safety and the influence of social media interactions among teenagers.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the minor, studying at a private school, was alone at her residence in a housing society in Kavi Nagar. Her father was away at work, and her mother had stepped out to a nearby market to buy groceries. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the girl’s father at Kavi Nagar police station, one of the accused, who might be a minor and is also a student at the same school- connected with her via Instagram for two days prior to the incident seeking a meeting. He is identified as the main accused.
On Sunday, around 11:30 AM, the main accused landed at her residence. When the doorbell rang, the girl opened the door, expecting only the boy she had been communicating with. Instead, he was accompanied by three other individuals. They had alleged forced their way in and then raped her in turns. Bhaskar Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Kavi Nagar, stated that the perpetrators were still present when the girl’s mother returned home unexpectedly early. Upon seeing the situation, the mother locked the door from inside and raised an alarm. Local residents arrived at the flat after hearing the commotion, but only one of the suspects was briefly detained before escaping with the others. FIR has been registered the same night under Section 70(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for gang rape and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, two of the accused were apprehended near the Mehrouli Underpass in the Industrial Area Police Post, based on CCTV footage and local intelligence. Upon verification of their documents, including school certificates and Aadhaar cards, the police confirmed that the two arrested individuals are above 18 years, contrary to earlier assumptions that all suspects were minors. The identities of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed to protect the ongoing investigation.
The main accused, believed to be a minor and a resident of the Wave City area, remains absconding along with the fourth suspect, who is also an adult. The police are pursuing the fugitives, with efforts underway to analyse additional CCTV footage and gather further evidence. The victim was sent for a medical examination, and her statement is yet to be recorded before a magistrate, which is expected to provide further clarity on the case.
