Former Maharastra CM Ashok Chavan Resigns From Congress, After Milind Deora, Baba Siddique
Months ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections and the state assembly polls, former Maharastra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has resigned from Congress on Monday, in yet another blow to the grand old party. Chavan has resigned from the primary membership of the party, amidst growing buzz that he is in touch with Bhartiya Janta Party. This comes days after senior Maharashtra Congress leaders Baba Siddique and Milind Deora quit Congress.
Possibly the shortest resignation letter, Chavan sent his one-line resignation letter to Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Nana Patole. "I hereby submit my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with effect from noon on 12/02/2024”, Chavan wrote, citing no reason behind his decision.
Chavan has also sent his letter to the Maharastra Assembly speaker tendering his resignation from the post of the MLA. Sources say, Chavan has been in touch with BJP and could be offered a Rajya Sabha seat from Maharastra by BJP. Without confirming the speculations, Maharastra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said “Aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya, (wait and watch what happens next)”.
