Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren arrested by the ED, JMM calls for a statewide bandh in protest
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate with the alleged land scam case. Soren was apprehended soon after he submitted his resignation to governor CP Radhakrishnan Wednesday night.
Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after more than seven hours of questioning, over the alleged land scam case. As per reports, the central agency also seized a sum of Rs 36 lakh, and a a luxury car from his residence in Delhi, on Tuesday.
The MLAs of the JMM and the Congress coalition declared senior JMM leader Champai Soren as the next CM of Jharkhand, following Hemant Soren's arrest. “CM Hemant Soren has decided to resign. Champai Soren has been chosen as the new leader of the Legislative party… All the MLAs are with us,” said Jharkhand Congress president, Rajesh Thakur.
Soon after his arrest, Hemant Soren took to social media platform "X" and said he would "fight every moment" and "not beg for compromise." "It's a break, life is a great battle. I have fought every moment, I will fight every moment. But I will not beg for compromise," posted the former Jharkhand CM. The JMM has called for a statewide bandh in the state on Tuesday, in protest of Soren's arrest.
As per reports, Hemant Soren is likely to be produced in court on Thursday, where the investigative agency is likely to request his custody and present evidence against the former Jharkhand CM.
